Diana Waterman's Cow, Oprah

Diana Waterman is looking for a name for her new calf born two days ago to her Black Angus cow which she named “Oprah”.  No, really, she does have a Black Angus cow and she named it “Oprah”. (click here to see her Facebook announcement.)  Now I’m sure she chose that name because she has a close friend named Oprah and that it has nothing to do with the immensely popular and successful black woman, Oprah Winfrey.
Well, who is this Diana Waterman woman and why does it matter? She is the Financial Records Manager with Coldwell Banker Waterman Realty.  She is the treasurer of the United Way of Queen Anne’s County. Diana is the 1st Vice President of the Maryland Federation of Republican Women and also a member of both the Chesapeake Women’s Network and the QAC Chamber of Commerce.
Now comes the part that matters.  Diana Waterman serves as the Chair of the Queen Anne's County Republican Central Committee and get this, she is also Vice President of the Maryland Republican Party.  One of her listed duties in these important positions is to “promote a positive political image” for the Republican Party.
As a Republican, I do not believe that Diana Waterman comes even close to promoting a positive image for the party.  During our recent county election she campaigned with Robert Mansfield, one of two Republican Candidates for County Commissioner from District 1. The huge problem was that Diana was a top officer (Vice Chair) of the Republican Central Committee of Queen Anne’s County at the time.  She knew that by campaigning for Mr. Mansfield (who just happened to have a lengthy criminal past) against another Republican, she was abusing her position on the Central Committee.
Each Central Committee member is elected by all party members and is supposed to be a representative of the entire party -- not certain elements or constituencies within it.  Under the by-laws of both Republican and Democrat Central Committees, it’s the role of each member, and the Central Committee in general, to remain completely neutral in their support of declared candidates until after the primary.  This is a good rule because it allows all candidates to be a part of a fair and ethical election process, supported by their local central committee.  It was obvious that Ms. Waterman simply did not care about following rules, treating Republican candidates fairly, or exercising good ethics.
Now there is a slim chance that Diana Waterman names all of her pets after prominent black Americans she admires, but I doubt it.  In fact, I’m betting she names her new calf “Michael Steele”.  Perhaps she will give him a quick call and see if he’s okay with that. (Actually, I’m betting that when she reads this, a few of her recent Facebook posts disappear.)
Sadly, Ms. Waterman, you are precisely why an enormous number of Americans view Republicans as racists.  You certainly do not represent my values or the values I want the Republican Party to espouse.  Do us a favor and resign immediately!

  1. Look who her top "friend" is then read the next article on this blog. Are these the kind of Republicans in charge of Queen Anne's County?

If the county and state Republican party doesn't can this bigot, I'm becoming an Independent!

  3. Thanks Ms. Waterman. You have breathed new life into our party. And you want African Americans to join your party?

  4. I can guess who is having a cow now. Wait until the Dems get ahold of this.

  5. This is exactly why the Democrats have dominated this state for decades. The leadership of the MD Republican party is a joke.

  6. Maybe the Dems should rename their Donkey "Honkey".

  7. Shit Storm, what is your problem? Not everyone has to think like you. Tell her I said to name Oprahs calf Obama.

  8. Anonymous, please tell me you're not a Republican. I don't want to believe everyone in my political party thinks like you and Ms. Waterman.

We have chickens, rabbits, fish, a dog and a horse. Five of the chickens and two of the rabbits are black and it never even crossed our minds to name them after famous black people. Then again, three of the chickens and one of the rabbits are white and we never thought of naming them after famous white people. Is it really that hard for you to look at another human being and simply see them as one of God's wonderful creations without focusing on their skin color?

By the way, you weren't the first one to come up with the Obama idea. One of Diana Waterman's friends commented on her Facebook page that she should name her new calf Obama. I'm sure you'd be happy to know that Diana didn't respond by saying the suggestion was out of line. Perhaps you should "friend" Ms. Waterman.

  9. The significance of this is that it shows her mindset. I'm sure that Diana Waterman sees nothing wrong with what she has done. This speaks volumes about her character, or should I say lack of character. My husband and I are devout Republicans and we both agree it's time to root out and remove people like Mrs. Waterman from our party. She has no business being there. I hate seeing a prominent member of our party exposed as a racist, but so be it. Like Glenn Beck says, speak the truth and do it with boldness. Thank you for your boldness and for exposing this Mr. Storm. It hurts, but we will be a better party in the long run.

  10. Thank you MR. Storm for posting this blog. Many people are afraid to take on the BEAST that is Diana Waterman.

As a leader of the party she should be held to a higher standard, and she should have known better. As far as her defense " My children named the cows" As a mother, she should have used that as a lesson to her children about the racial issues that we face in this country. I guess the entire family is clueless. Instead of apologizing to those she has offended she has made statements to close friends and family that she really doesn't think it's a big deal - and thinks that there is NOTHING wrong with naming a BLACK cow "OPRAH". She's accused you of being a mudslinger and had her friends attack you on their blogs. That is not sensible leadership, that is cowardice.

FACT : Diana Waterman is either too proud to admit when she is wrong or too stupid to recognize that what she or her family has done is racially offensive. Either way, she should NOT maintain leadership in our party.

  11. It's the little things that reveal who we really are. I hope she asks herself some serious questions. Time for some real reflection Mrs. Waterman.

  12. An attorney in our county just called to inform me of some libelous statements made on one of the blogs about me. He explained that libel is defamation by written or printed words and that a witness has come forward who will testify that Kevin Waterman, son of Diana, has boasted that he is the one responsible for the blog postings. This attorney has agreed to represent me and I might just take him up on that offer. Taking the lawyer’s advice, I’m asking anyone who has firsthand knowledge of Kevin Waterman’s participation to please contact me.

As to Kevin’s claim that I’m a racist, perhaps he should talk to Kareem, my manager at my ice cream store. Maybe he’ll name a pet after him as well.

  13. If you can prove that Kevin was acting in his capacity as a Central Committee member, maybe you could sue the Central Committee or the Maryland Republican Party.

Wait a minute. What am I thinking? Kevin probably has more money than they do.

  14. Mr. Storm you should check your own work first. You made two false claims.

    1. Waterman named the cow Oprah. She did not.

    2. You claim she abused her position as QACGOPCC vice chair. She did not.

Instead of throwing around threats of lawsuits you should look within.

  15. Don't tell me that her son Kevin named the cow. I guess that makes it OK.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Trust me, Mr. Nugent. One of the Watermans named that cow. Her defense? " My children named the cows". Did she not have the wisdom to suggest to her children that naming their black animals after black people might be considered insensitive? Ever heard the expression "the apple doesn't fall from the tree"?

By the way, do you think there is anything wrong with naming a black cow "Oprah"?

And Mark, she did abuse her position with the central committee and there were a whole lot of witnesses to that in Symphony Village. She knew that by campaigning in that community door to door for Mr. Mansfield (who just happened to have a lengthy criminal past) against another Republican, she was abusing her position on the Central Committee. While I was taking photos of that occurrence, Ms. Waterman stated that perhaps it wasn't the right thing to do. She broke the rules and she knew it.

  17. If I ever buy a jackass I'm going to name it Kevin.

  19. Maybe you should subpoena Mark too. If Kevin was boasting to anyone, it would be to his co-blogging buddy.

  20. Hey Kevin Waterman and Mark Nugent are soooo right about Storm. He's a real creep. They will love this site:

  21. Sounds like a creep to me!

Hey, Newgent, you never addressed the real issue in your blogs. People are upset at the racial implication and her lack of acknowledgment.
If there is NO story here with the Oprah thing, why not just say " Listen, Folks, I understand how some of you could have taken this the wrong way, my family really respects Oprah so we named our cow after her" Instead she's been silent. I'll tell you why, because she's a pompous ass feels she is above an explanation. She is in a leadership position. We expected more from her when we elected her.
I respect your work Mr. Newgent, but frankly I think it's you, Sir, who's let the "GREEN" get the best of you. You've let your hatred for Mr. Storm cloud your judgment on the bigger issue at hand. Stop attacking him and address the real issue here.

  22. STORM,
Make mark answer the question "By the way, do you think there is anything wrong with naming a black cow "Oprah"?" I'd like to hear his take.. since all I've heard outta his mouth so far is what a scumbag you are.
Get to the real issues, Newgent.

  23. Mr. Storm I see your problem with basic facts continues to dog you. My last name is Newgent not Nugent. That shouldn’t be too hard to figure out as it is spelled out on the very comment you responded to. While I admit the visuals of naming a black cow “Oprah” are not good, and would have asked my kids to come up with a different name, you are taking what is at best a trivial matter and using it to make Diana Waterman a member of the White Citizens Council....... Whether one of Waterman’s children named the cow is irrelevant, you printed that she named the cow, that is false and you have not had the integrity to update your post with a correction. Furthermore, your patently false claim that Waterman abused her position as QACGOPCC Vice Chair essentially rests on the argument “because you say so.” You took some pictures....give me a break.... I don’t hate Sveinn Storm, I just happen to think he is a political bully who uses false statements and innuendo to smear those with whom he disagrees, and needs to be stood up to.

  24. Mr. Noogent, So I take it you would not have gone along with your kids naming the cow Oprah.

Mrs. Waterman did campaign for Robert Mansfield. The reason I went out and photographed the two of them going door to door together was because some of those people they greeted were not happy with the fact that Ms. Waterman was promoting promoting him as the best choice, and they called me.

It appears that you have a lot of anger left over from the real conservatives' recent defeat of the State Departments hard skills facility proposed for the community of Ruthsburg. How was it that a Republican such as yourself could have been such an ardent supporter of Barbara Mikulski, stimulus funded pork? Oops, I guess you believe Republicans should only stand up for their principles if it doesn't interfere with lining their pockets.

So the best you can do is come up with bogus remarks labeling me a racist? Tell it to Kareem, the black manager of my business. He has worked for me at Storm Bros. Ice Cream Factory since the age of fourteen and because he was the best person for the job, he has been my manager since 2006. Before you even suggest it, his promotion was not due to fulfilling racial quotas.

Are the people at the State GOP aware of the libelous venom you spew on your blogs toward fellow Republicans who have a difference of opinion with you? How about the folks you work for at Johns Hopkins University? They should take a look.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I guess Mr. Newgent would have been happy to encumber American citizens with another 500 million dollars of debt per year to fund that hard skills facility. He's precisely what's wrong with partisan politics. Say one thing and do another. He's just angry because you publicly supported several Democrats in the last election. Good for you Storm. I'm a Republican that did the same thing. I've heard you say "it's not about what's right or left, it's about right and wrong." I couldn't agree with you more!

  26. You people really need to pull your heads out of your tailpipes and get real. Your entire country is going down the toilet at the speed of light and you worry about a cow named Oprah?

Do you have any idea how idiotic you appear to the rest of the world?

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's going down the toilet at the speed of light because phony Republicans like Diana Waterman and her ilk support projects that put our country in further debt. Pull your head out of your tailpipe and explain why Waterman got on board with Barbara Mikulski and Hillary Clinton in an attempt to build another huge bureaucratic nightmare for the American people to pay for. Wait a minute, she's in the real estate/development business. You don't think she was trying to line her and her friends pockets at the country's expense , do you? It's as important to get rid of big spending, self serving Republicans as it is to get rid of big spending Democrats. I respect honest liberals far more than deceitful, bigoted conservatives! Waterman is full of what her cow drops and I don't mean her calf.

  28. Mr. Storm-

I heard you on the radio out here in Fresno and agree with you 100%. Those that called in afterwards still didn't understand the difference between naming their pet after an african-american celebrety vs. a republican party official doing it. Until members of the party understand the difference, we will continue to have trouble attracting minorities to our party.
